ReNew ELP, operational in 2024

Based at Wilton International, an established industrial site in Teesside, England, ReNew ELP is Mura's flagship - the world's first HydroPRS™ site.

About the Site

This world-first site will be constructed in two phases. The first phase currently under construction and due to launch in 2024 will place 20,000 tonnes of recycled hydrocarbon products onto the market annually, with plans to increase to over three times this initial size.

ReNew ELP has appointed Wood PLC, the global consulting and engineering company, as its Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor (EPC) on the project and has awarded a 10 year operations and maintenance contract to px Group.

The ReNew ELP site is funded by its parent company Mura Technology, with investment from our partners Dow, KBR and igus. In 2020, ReNew ELP was also awarded a £4.42 million grant from Innovate UK to help build this world’s first commercial-scale HydroPRS™ recycling plant. Focussing on the UK Government’s priority to drive economic growth through new technology, the award came via the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund’s Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging programme, recognising the commercial feasibility of the technology and potential of the advanced recycling sector to help meet ambitious plastic recycling targets. The site was also awarded a £5million equity investment from the UK Government’s Future Fund.

The development of the world’s first HydroPRS™ site at Wilton, Teesside, places the area on the map as frontrunners in the future of plastic recycling, drawing on a local skilled workforce, established feedstock suppliers and customers for our hydrocarbon products, vital infrastructure and utilities as part of the North-East Process Industry Cluster. The support of the Government via the £4.42 grant from Innovate UK in 2020 demonstrated that we are in line with the drive towards increasing recycling targets in the UK, alongside strengthening investor confidence. During the lifespan of the project so far, we have appointed Wood as our Engineering, Procurement and Construction partner and Geminor as our Principal Feedstock Supplier. In addition, PX Group were awarded a 10 year Operations and Maintenance contract, continuing our utilisation of local specialists. The team are excited to see the project through to completion in 2024 and look forward to demonstrating this innovative process at global level.
