is how long it would take nature to turn plastic back into hydrocarbon feedstocks
of plastic ends up in the ocean each year
The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) has released an independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Report of chemical recycling. The report highlights the significant potential of this technology to tackle plastic waste, and clearly demonstrates the environmental benefits compared with incineration and the use of fossil fuels to make virgin materials. Produced by leading LCA consultancy, Sphera, the report was peer reviewed by independent academic and technical experts.
The analysis shows that by combining the use of recycled plastic which has been chemically recycled, with further chemical recycling at the end of a product’s life, recycling using thermal technologies offers a 43% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with producing plastics from fossil fuels and incineration at the end of life.
At a time when we are facing a global plastics crisis and an urgent need to reduce carbon emissions, we must take every step possible to support the technologies which are going to protect the planet and accelerate us towards a truly circular economy. Mura’s innately scalable, innovative chemical recycling technology is paving the way to enable a global circular plastics economy.
