On Friday 18th September, Mura’s CEO Dr Steve Mahon featured in Sustainable Packaging 2020, a printed publication enclosed within every copy of The Guardian! This piece spearheads the start of a four month campaign, highlighting sustainable technologies within Business and Industry.

The campaign featured exclusive content from key thought leaders and industry voices to encourage awareness and education about the use of packaging; exploring themes including circular economy, waste management and innovative solutions.

Steve highlights the importance of plastic as a material, and its many uses in food and medical packaging – and how it should be valued, not disposed off after a “short single” use lifespan. Steve goes on to explain that unlike traditional mechanical recycling, Cat-HTR™, as a form of advanced recycling, can process all types of plastic, including flexible and multi-layered plastics. The products made using the Cat-HTR™ technology can then be re-used in food-contact packaging, creating a circular economy.

Many plastic products are considered unrecyclable and are instead sent to landfill or incineration after a short, “single-use” lifespan. The Cat-HTR™ technology is a shovel-ready solution to recycling waste plastic, with the first site in development in Teesside, North East England
